While 75-785has been designed for many years of reliable, trouble-freeperformance, it is a precision piece of electronic equipment that should not be exposed to water or to extreme temperatures. Do not leave batteries installed over a long period of time as leakage may occur and cause damage to the radio. Never use different batteries from the ones suggested. Clean the unit with a damp cloth only, never use harsh chemicals. CARE OF OPTIONAL RECHARGEABLE Ni-CdBATTERIES The following is meant as general information regarding Ni-Cdbatteries.

Always allow the battery to fully charge before using. Allow the batteries to fully discharge before recharging. Full discharge will be indicated by the “BATT. LOW” indicator. The above will prevent the batteries from developing “memory” which effectively reduces their capacity. It is better to store Ni-Cdbatteries that are discharged rather than charged. Never use batteries which differ from the ones recommended.
Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries of different capacities. If you experience problems when using the transceiver, check the following: A. Batteries must be in good condition; B. The volume level and squelch control setting; C. The channel selector for an active channel; D.
The antenna must be properly inserted. CONTROLS AND INDICATORS 1. Antenna connector with BNC connector: To obtain better results, use either a telescopic or an external antenna. Squelch Knob: for the maximum receiver sensitivity, the control must be regulated exactly where the receiver background noise disappears.
On/Off Volume Control: In “OFF” position your transceiver is off. Turn this control clockwise to switch on the unit.
Continue turning the knob clockwise to set the audio level, until you get a comfortable reception. Display: Indicates the selected channel (from 1 to 40). The display turns off when the squelch is operative. LOW” LED: This indicator lights when the batteries are low. Replace the alkaline or recharge the AA Ni-Cdbatteries. “TX” LED: The indicator lights when the unit is transmitting 7. Microphone: during transmission, hold the microphone two inches from your mouth, speaking in a clear, normal voice.
Push to Talk Button (“PTT”): By pressing it, the transmitter is activated. When released, you activate the receiver.
“Channel UP” button: Tunes to the next channel. Autorepeat is activated by holding this button. “Channel DOWN” button: Tunes to the previous channel. Autorepeat is activated by holding this button. “SPK” jack: external loudspeaker jack (the internal loudspeaker will be disabled). “PTT/MIC” jack: PTT jack / external microphone.
13.8 VDC Charge: Power supply/charge jack. You can power the unit from external sources (car battery, etc.) and to recharge the Ni-Cdbatteries. “HI/LOW” Switch: Selects the output power level during transmission. Battery Compartment: Insert 9 AA alkaline or Ni-Cdbatteries.
(Note: alkaline batteries are not rechargeable). Belt Clip 18. Hole for wrist strap. HOW TO OPERATE WITH YOUR TRANSCEIVER 1.
Insert the antenna into the antenna connector. Insert 9 AA alkaline or Ni-Cdbatteries into the battery compartment (pay attention to the polarity).
When using Ni-Cdbatteries, switch the interrupter inside this compartment to “Ni” position: in this way, the Ni-Cdbatteries can be charged by an optional charger. Select the “AL” position when using the alkaline batteries. Rotate the ON/OFF volume control clockwise to turn the unit on. Adjust the volume to the desired listening level. Adjust the SQUELCH control. Select the desired channel using the “UP/DOWN” buttons. To transmit: Press and hold the PTT button, then talk to the microphone.
To receive: Simply release the PTT button. ANTENNA The 75-785antenna connector permits the use of any kind of 50 Ω/ 27 MHz band antennas. Better results both in RX and TX can be obtained by using a telescopic antenna. The supplied rubber antenna, however, is more compact and practical to use. It is suitable for communications where maximum range is not necessary. POWER JACK/RECHARGE This jack enables you to power the unit using an external power source or directly with the battery of your vehicle using the supplied power cord (the plug must be connected to the power source). The jack, also, permits the recharge of Ni-Cdbatteries through an optional charger.
(Attention: To recharge these batteries, switch the interrupter inside the battery compartment onto the “Ni” position.) CB COMMUNICATIONS CODES Radios operators have universally adapted the “10” code for standard communications. It enables them to communicate more easily in noisy surroundings. Here below you will find some of the most common codes and their meaning: Code Meaning 10-1. Receiving poorly 10-2. Receiving well 10-3.

TUNED UP CB RADIOS TO THE MAXIMUM! That’s what I have been doing for over 35 years now—I use a BIRD Meter (the MOST Accurate) that I have over $500 into and a Modulation meter to get your CB to do ALL it can do (peak and tune CB’s to the Max).
When you get the FULL power & modulation out of your CB, it WON’T be TO LOUD, and you won’t damage your final because of it. The antenna system is what damages the CB’s final. So when I get you antenna system problem free & set right with a beter designed antenna, you have VERY LITTLE power going back to the CB to damage it!
That means MORE power goes OUT your antenna for more range so they can hear you WAY down the road! I got some BAD news to tell you, and some GOOD news! The BAD news is that your Cobra or Uniden is NOT doing 20 to 90 or more watts like you’ve been told! It does 4 watts out of the box, and when they are ALL the way up, they do 5 – 7 watts (and 40% LOUDER when you talk on it).
With the OLD bigger final, converted for MORE power, & parts added, I have done 2 CB’s to do 12.5 watts DEAD KEY, the highest I’ve ever seen in 35 years! That’s AM dead key watts on an AM METER (not a SSB meter, or peak meter WHISTLING into the mic.) When you whistle AM power into the mic on a SSB meter, it goes to 20 – 90 watts or so.
You are NOT doing that power! Using an AM meter, it maybe goes 2 watts higher, or so. I did a 4 wheeler’s CB by taking out the mod. Kit & the power went from 2 to 7 watts. These mod kits are put in by the WORST places in the country!
When your POWER goes down, you GO LESS distance! He was told that he was doing 20 – 30 watts! What deception! The GOOD news is that I can get rid of this JUNK & get your Cobra or Uniden higher for less $$$! I see 1 out of 20 Cobras & Unidens peaked right (all the way up) so called “peak & tune.” Galaxies, Connex, Ranger, Gen. Lee or Washington, Stryker, Magnum & others I see 1 or 2 done right PER YEAR!
AND the CB’s I see with he AMP built into the bottom of it, I DOUBLE the power out of it, or more! When a CB will do 12 to 25 watts, and they set it around 8 watts, and when radios do 100 – 135 watts, and they set them at 40 – 60 or less, and when a radio will do 300 WATTS and they set them at 85 – 100, what does that tell you? I saw a CB that would do 300 watts set at 11 watts! That’s how LOW they set them, and internet “stores” seem to be WORSE than truckstop CB shops!
There are VERY FEW CB’s out there that should NOT be put ALL the way up. I know which ones they are, and I can set them at the max.
They should be set at SAFELY! E mail me or call for an address (where I’m at @ the time you call), so you can send t to me so I can turn your CB INTO a BIG Radio, or sell you a bigger one IF you want the next size bigger for the MOST amount of range, for the LEAST amount of $$$! (and remember—I’m NOT on “sales drugs!” I sell people what they NEED; the MOST power for the least $$$$. I fix & tune up MORE than I sell! Chances ARE that your CB WILL DO more, regardless of what you’ve been told! It probably is NOT all the way up!
